What is jitter?

Jitter is defined as the variation of the delay in receiving data packets during the network/Internet communication. This delay may affect the quality of the transmission in the case of video calls or video streaming. Jitter is generally caused by congestion in the IP network.

Lower is better. It is considered that a jitter that exceeds 40ms affects the quality of video calls/streaming.

This Internet Speed Test estimates the jitter in milliseconds, measured by seeing how long it takes for an empty XMLHttpRequest (XHR) to complete.
